The Origin of Life Values

Origin stories started almost every concept or idea we know in our long and complicated history. By looking at different concepts of juxtaposition, such as good/evil and dark/light, we are able to identify different comparisons. For example, the idea of morality is a simple system that has several complicated stories to explain it. These stories were all created to help explain the world and create certainty in questions asked by the community. Through the eyes of Adam and Eve, this story introduces the formation of common moral values from a Christian viewpoint. God instructs them not to touch or eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. As a result of this temptation, Eve couldn't resist and "she gave me (Adam) some fruit from the tree, and I ate it” (Gen. 3:12). In effect, this story demonstrates the difference between right and wrong and how it can be controlled. In this specific case, however, the greed and urge for the forbidden fruit caused them both to make the wrong decision and face the consequences.
Moral values can teach everyone to follow similar "guidelines" to their life. Knowing the difference between right and wrong is something that everyone in a group shares for the most part, unifying them as a community. Making decisions and knowing what to do in situations, a very basic part of daily life, come from moral values that guide us in the direction we choose to go in. In this origin story, the obvious decision to make when told there would be a severe consequence, would seem to be to obey the order and do the right thing. Clearly, Adam and Eve both did the opposite and went against God's direction. Primarily, this is because of the greed and desire that overpowered their good morals and pushed them into the wrong decision. The consequences that follow are what encourage people to do the right thing and, in the end, gain the right mindset and reasons for doing something.
In comparison to the message taught in Adam and Eve, it is just like when a child is told not to touch something, it makes them want to touch it even more. In this instance, the children are left alone in a room with a marshmellow in front of them and are told to wait to eat it becuase they will receive another if they do. In the end, it was very difficult for them to wait, with the temptation and yearning to eat it, some gave in. This situation is similar to Adam and Eve's because they both had to determine if they would follow through with the right decision, or give in to what they truely want.

In my opinion, origin stories give people a place to put their belief in, or a way to put importance and direction into their lives as to how the world came to be. In all, the distinction between everything we know today in society comes from origin stories that explain and identify the difference between concepts and values. They teach us significant lessons that help explain the world in a clearer way and establish a specific kind of thinking or order to a community.
